Longtime Workers’ Rights Advocate to Speak As Vice Chair of Democratic Party
Today at 4:55 MT, AFL-CIO Exec. Vice President Emerita Linda Chavez-Thompson will address the Democratic National Convention in Denver prior to Sen. Barack Obama’s acceptance of the Democratic Party nomination for President.
Chavez-Thompson, a passionate advocate for social justice and workers’ rights, will speak briefly at Invesco Field this afternoon in her capacity as a Vice Chair of the Democratic Party.
Chavez-Thompson was the first person to hold the office of executive vice president and the first person of color to hold one of the top elected offices at the AFL-CIO. She was elected in 1995 after serving in a series of leadership roles in AFSCME and on the AFL-CIO Executive Council. She retired last year but remains active fighting for workers’ rights in the U.S. and around the globe.
